New Applications of Evolutionary Linguistics (NAEL 2025)

Recent developments in linguistics, cognitive science, and computational modeling have expanded the scope of evolutionary linguistics beyond its traditional focus on the origins of language. This workshop explores new applications of evolutionary linguistics by bringing together interdisciplinary research that examines the evolution of symbolic systems through the lens of language. We welcome contributions including the emergence of shared symbolic norms, the co-evolution of structure and meaning, and the cognitive or cultural mechanisms that shape these systems over time. By integrating various perspectives, this workshop aims to chart new territory in understanding the dynamics of symbolic communication systems and their applications across domains.
